Pope denounces Africa’s forgotten tragedies

2 Pope denounces Africas forgotten tragediesOn Easter Sunday, Pope Benedict expressed concern for those situations around the world that worry him most.

Benedict XVI said that the world continues to ignore the “cruel and countless” conflicts that continue to plague the African continent, as well as the number of victims that suffer through poverty, hunger and disease.

The Pope requested “sincere efforts” to bring peace to the Holy Land and the Middle East. He also went on to highlight some of the more serious problems on the global landscape like the economic crisis, climate change and terrorism.

Given the current uncertainty of the world, the Pope said that man needs horizons capable of restoring hope. Something that only God can give.

Benedict XVI
With Easter, Christ has removed the root of evil, but he needs the aid of men and women to help him assure, always and everywhere, the victory with his own weapons: the weapons of justice and truth, mercy, forgiveness and love.

The Pope also made an indirect mention to the situation of the Church in China when he greeted Christians that suffer persecution and encouraged them to dare respond to attacks by remaining faithful especially during the toughest of times.

The Easter address concluded with the Urbi et Orbi blessing, to the city and to the world, delivered in 63 languages, including Cambodian, Arabic and Guarani.
